St. Cloud Police Warn Of Phone Scam Targeting Int'l Students
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in St. Cloud are warning the public about a phone scam that seems to be targeting international students.
The St. Cloud Police Department says the scam involves the department's non-emergency number: 320-251-1200. They say that this an incoming phone line only, and that if you get a call from this number, it's probably a hoax.
Police advise never providing personal and financial information to people or businesses that appear to be making random phone calls. They added that police are not in the business of collecting back taxes or taking money in lieu of not processing an arrest warrant.
Investigators say it's difficult to catch the perpetrators of this scam because they use fake caller ID numbers.
