Police: Fire Erupts After Car Hits Gas Line In Spring Lake Park

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A driver hit a gas line near a church in Spring Lake Park Wednesday night.

Police say the line, located next to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on the 7700 block of Monroe Street Northeast, was struck at about 7:45 p.m.

Flames have steadily flown from the line since it was struck. Spring Lake Park's fire chief says equipment is needed to dig underground in order to shut the line off. Firefighters are spraying the church with water to keep it cool.

Police say the driver left the scene, but was later found and is cooperating. Police also say there is no threat to the neighborhood or surrounding buildings. No one has been injured.
