Speculation Continues Over Peterson And Cowboys

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- Even after Vikings star Adrian Peterson said he wanted to play with the Vikings for the rest of his career, some are speculating that may not be the case.

According to reports, the running back had a phone conversation with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in June.

Peterson reportedly said he'd like to play for the Cowboys. ESPN quoted Jones as saying during the call, "We'll see what we can do, if we can make that happen."

Peterson is in the fourth year of a seven-year, $100 million contract with the Vikings.

As reported by the Associated Press, though, because of the way his contract is structured, which allows the Vikings to release him without incurring hardly any salary cap issues after this season, Peterson is essentially on a series of one-year deals controlled by the team. If his production declines as he gets older, he could be released or asked to take a pay cut.
