Southwest LRT Project Scores Almost $1B In Federal Grant Money
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Almost $1 billion in federal funding will help pay for a major extension of the Twin Cities light rail system.
The Southwest LRT will run from Eden Prairie to Target Field in Minneapolis, connecting to the existing METRO Green Line.
State officials announced Monday that a federal grant will pay for almost half of the $2-billion price tag.
Crews started construction back in 2018. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
