South St. Paul Public Schools Canceled Wednesday Due To Potential Threat
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- South St. Paul Public Schools officials have decided to cancel class Wednesday due to a potential threat.
According to school officials, a phone call was made to South St. Paul police indicating a threat against one of the district's elementary schools.
"We apologize for the late notice and understand that this cancellation will create challenges for some families today. However, the safety and security of all students and staff is our top priority and we feel that canceling school today (November 21st, 2018) is in the best interest of our community," the school said.
Police later said that they found the individual who provided the information at around 9 a.m. Wednesday and that the person is known to police. Police said the person was found to be in an apparent mental health crisis.
According to police, a subsequent interview with the individual revealed that while the individual revealed they believe the threat to be credible, but had no articulable information to support this belief.
The individual was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
