Semifinals set for Girls' State High School Hockey Tournament
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- With the snow storm over, more fans are heading into St. Paul to support their local teams at the Girls' State High School Hockey Tournament. It continued Thursday with the Class AA quarterfinals at Xcel Energy Center.
The Minnetonka Skippers are the number-one seed, and they were almost shocked by Centennial Spring Lake Park, who tied it up with just over a minute left. That was too much time for Lindsay Avar, who scored with 40 seconds left in regulation. Tonka went on to a dramatic 3-2 win over Centennial.
Gentry Academy's Cara Sajaveek was part of a small group that put on a show Thursday, scoring a hat trick in their 7-0 victory over Moorhead. Gentry will face Minnetonka in the semifinals, held Friday at 8 p.m. at the X.
Andover had an even bigger blowout win over Rosemount, with a final score of 9-0. Isa Goettl also netted a hat trick in that game.
Hanna Halverson scored twice for Edina in their 6-0 win over Lakeville North. They will meet Andover Friday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals at the X.
Wednesday was the Class A quarterfinals. The Otters faced off against South St. Paul, and the game was a crazy one. Scoreless through regulation, they played into double overtime. South St. Paul won the game 1-0 and moves on to the semifinals Friday. They will face Warroad at the X at 1 p.m.
In another Class A quarterfinal Wednesday, Orono looked very good against Luverne. Macy Rasmussen made a particularly nifty move for a goal. They won 6-0.
Orono will meet Proctor-Hermantown Friday at the X at 11 a.m. Reese Heitzman scored twice against Mankato East in a 4-3 win in that game.
