Sheriff: No Charges In Winona Crash That Killed 4
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said Monday that criminal charges won't be filed in a crash in Winona that killed four people, including the driver.
The crash happened Jan. 5 on Riverview Drive in Winona.
The Winona County Sheriff's Office said the driver, Christina Hauser, had a blood alcohol level of .168 at the time of the crash. That's more than twice the legal limit for driving in Minnesota. Officers said alcohol impairment and speed were the main factors in the crash where Hauser and three others died after the car plunged into the Mississippi River. Hauser was also driving 49 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone.
Other victims in the crash were identified as Blake Overland, 28 of Stewartville; Mathew Erickson, 30 of Chatfield and Andrew Kingsbury, 29 of La Crosse, Wis. All four had been seen leaving a Winona tavern just before 1:30 a.m. the morning of the crash.
