MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 37-year-old man had to be rescued from Lake Minnetonka on Saturday after his snowmobile went through the ice, according to the Carver County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities received several 911 calls just before 9 p.m. that a snowmobile and its rider had fallen through the ice at the southern end of Smithtown Bay on Lake Minnetonka. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been pulled to safety by two area homeowners who used kayaks to rescue him.

Sheriff's deputies brought the man to a nearby home to give him medical treatment until emergency personnel arrived. He was taken to Ridgeview Hospital for treatment of hypothermia and later released. Authorities identified the man as Brian Jule Eggen of Minnetrista.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office said the accident is still under investigation.
