Sheriff: Dakota Co. Gov't Campus Locked Down Briefly After Man Yells About Gun

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man yelling about a gun prompted a brief shutdown at the Dakota County Government Services Center Thursday morning, according to county officials.

The Dakota County Sheriff's Office says at 8:35 a.m. a deputy heard a man yelling about having a gun in the parking lot of the Judicial Center. Other witnesses also reported hearing the man yelling.

All buildings on the campus were shut down. Hastings High School was also briefly locked down as a precaution.

Authorities say the man was soon located inside the government center complex. The man, who had an unopened bottle of alcohol in his possession and smelled of alcohol, was arrested without incident.

Authorities identify the man as 37-year-old Chance Amos Thern Schwersinske. He was arrested and questioned, but released due to insufficient evidence of a threat – and no weapons were found.

The campus lockdown was lifted at 9:05 a.m.
