Shakopee's Koenen Named AP Player Of The Year

Shakopee senior Taylor Koenen is the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year for high school girls basketball.

The award, voted on by statewide media, was announced Tuesday.

Koenen has committed to play in college for North Carolina. The 6-foot-2 guard finished her prep career as the program's all-time leader in points, 3-pointers, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals. Koenen became the first Shakopee player, boys or girls, to pass the 2,000-point mark. She led the Sabres to the Section 2 championship game, where they lost to eventual Class 4A champion Minnetonka.

Joining Koenen on the AP's all-state team are Nia Hollie of Hopkins, Andrayah Adams of St. Paul Como Park, Abi Scheid of Elk River and Jamie Ruden of Rochester John Marshall.
