Severe Storms Roll Through MN, More Expected

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The WCCO Weather Watcher is now flashing green, which means that there could be severe storms coming to your area.

Some parts of the state saw significant rains Wednesday as a line of severe storms rolled through the center of the state. Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for a number of counties as well, including Morrison, Todd, Douglas, Pope and Stevens counties.

The storm is posed to threaten the Twin Cities with stronger weather this evening, the National Weather Service is reporting.

Viewer photos showed significant amounts of rain flooding streets in Hutchinson. Half-dollar sized hail measuring 2-to-3-inches deep reportedly destroyed a 25-acre apple orchard in Waverly in Wright County.

Meteorologist Matt Brickman said the threat for severe weather continues this afternoon in a line stretching from Alexandria to St. Cloud. There is a potential for tornadoes and large hail.

From there, storms could continue on a southeasterly path toward the Twin Cities. Brickman said that those planning to go to the Twins game this evening should keep an eye on the skies, because storms could hit the metro area just as that game is getting underway around 7 p.m.
