Man Sentenced To Over 7 Years In South St. Paul Stabbing
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A West St. Paul man has been sentenced to 94 months in prison in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in South St. Paul last fall.
Anthony Bruce Bartz, 31, has been sentenced to seven years and 10 months in prison for manslaughter in the first degree.
According to the South St. Paul Police Department, around 2 a.m. on Oct. 28, 2015 officers responded to a report of an assault in the 400 block of 4th Avenue South.
Upon arrival, they found 36-year-old James Newman Frank, of Cottage Grove, in the front yard suffering stab wounds in his upper torso.
First responders attempted to administer CPR, but they were unsuccessful. Frank was declared dead on the scene.
Witnesses gave police descriptions of a man that had been seen arguing with Frank. This lead police to Bartz who had a bloody knife in his possession.
Bartz was initially charged with unintentional murder in the second degree while committing a felony. Bartz pleaded guilty to the charge. It was later changed.
