Sen. Franken Visits City Severely Damaged By Storms

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota town is dealing with the aftermath of a tornado that hit their community earlier this week.

Saturday, Sen. Al Franken traveled to Watkins to meet with local officials and the people who live there.

The town was one of the areas hit hardest by Monday's severe weather.

Franken toured the damage, then met with emergency responders and volunteers.

Around 70 homes, businesses and other buildings were damaged by the tornado.

"Watkins really came together and neighbors came together," Franken said. "I don't know what it looked like a week ago but it's pretty together and thank God no one got killed."

Franken says he doesn't think Watkins will qualify for federal help, but should receive state help to rebuild.
