'They're All In Shock': Search Continues For Missing Winona Boater, 63
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Crews have resumed their search Saturday for a 63-year-old Winona man who went missing after falling out of a boat near the Prairie Island spillway.
The Winona County Sheriff's office says several agencies reported to a distress call Friday just before 7:30 p.m. Two people had fallen into the Mississippi River when their boat capsized after they attempted to pull over at the spillway.
Neither man was wearing a life jacket. A passing boat rescued one of them, but crews searched for the second passenger until 10:30 p.m. The search continued Saturday at 6 a.m., with multiple agencies combing the area.
Sheriff Ron Ganrude says the man's family is shocked.
"I'm told he fishes all the time. This is his area, he knows it really well, so its surprising that there was an accident that happened today," Ganrude said.
The Prarie Island Boat Landing is closed. Investigators are asking for people to stay clear of the area so searchers can do their work.
