SAWYER COUNTY, Wis. — A man in his 50s is dead after crashing his motorcycle in northwestern Wisconsin on Friday.

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened on Phipps Road east of the intersection of Gouch Circle Road in Lenroot.

Deputies learned the motorcyclist had been traveling west on Phipps Road when it is suspected he left the roadway, entered the north ditch and traveled several hundred feet before coming to a rest.

The sheriff's office says 56-year-old Brad Burdette of East Troy, Wisconsin, had been ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not clear if Burdette had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

So far this year, 77 motorcyclists have died in crashes in Wisconsin, according to the state's Department of Transportation.
