Ruck For Life Raises Awareness For Suicide In Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Hundreds of current and former military members took to the streets Saturday to raise suicide awareness.

Carrying American flags, the group marched in full military gear through south Minneapolis.

Their route was 23 miles long, representing the fact that someone commits suicide every 23 minutes.

"They're in your community, they're at your workplace, and they won the war when they went over but they're losing the war back here," one organizer said.

For several of the walkers it was a deeply personal day some veterans, some family members.

Dan Borchers lost his cousin just two weeks ago.

"He lost the battle with PTS [post-traumatic stress disorder] on Oct. 10," Borchers said. "He was supposed to be here with us today, but now we walk with him in mind because he's one of the 23 veterans a day that commits suicide."
