Rosemount Man, 32, Gets Life Sentence In Fatal Bar Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 32-year-old Rosemount man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after being found guilty of fatally shooting a man outside a Burnsville bar last year, the Dakota County Attorney's Office announced.
On Wednesday, Shavelle Oscar Chavez-Nelson was found guilty of first- and second-degree murder in connection with the fatal Sept. 22, 2013 shooting.
The victim, 23-year-old Palagor Obang Jobi of Savage, died outside Nina's bar from multiple gunshot wounds.
"There was some pushing and shoving and then Nelson pulled out a gun and shot him several times," Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said.
The trial lasted one week and the jury deliberated for approximately two hours before Judge Katherine Messerich issued the sentence.
"We are pleased to have brought Shavelle Chavez-Nelson to justice for this senseless and violent crime that took the life of Palagor Jobi. Our deep sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Palagor Jobi for their great loss," Backstrom said.
Chavez-Nelson also faces a first-degree murder charge in connection to the death of 20-year-old University of Minnesota student Anarae Schunk, who was stabbed to death in a Rosemount town house.
