Ringing In The New Year With An Icy Dive

EXCELSIOR, Minn. (WCCO) -- It may have been cold, but it was still a good morning for many to take a swim, as Minnesotans took part in the 24th ALARC Ice Dive.

The annual New Year's Day tradition took place at Lake Minnetonka, where morning temperatures were below zero degrees.

This year the money raised goes to Wounded Warrior Program "Ride to Recovery," a Suicide Prevention Program, as well as Excelsior Volunteer Fire and South Lake Police Reserve.

A new twist on the tradition was a high school ice dive championship. Area high school students competed for a penguin trophy and $100 donation for their high schools.
