Review Of Mpls. Police Dept. Calls For More Transparency
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Over the last few years, the Minneapolis Police Department has faced much public scrutiny. A new review from the Department of Justice highlights the work that needs to be done.
At the request of Chief Janee Harteau, the Department of Justice looked at complaints filed against Minneapolis police from 2008 through 2013.
The review found most complaint cases resulted in coaching officers, rather than suspension or termination.
The feedback recommended more transparency of the review process and increased coaching for improved communication with the community.
The chief said the report gave the department tangible recommendations on steps to increase the public's trust and accountability.
