Near Record Highs Bring Summer Heat To Mid October

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For a state that has a reputation for uncomfortable weather, Minnesota was the place to be on Sunday. Near record highs in the low 80s were the cause for celebration.

Doug Nagle, of Deephaven, spent the morning in his boat with his wife and brother on Lake Minnetonka.

"Nicest day I can recall ever in October," he said.

The boater and lifelong Minnesotan says that, record or not, Sunday was one for the books.

"You gotta take this day and do whatever you can outside, it's fantastic," he said.

The only thing deterring one group of dockside friends in Excelsior from getting on the lake was the Packers game.

"Yes, but we're outside now having coffee and pastries," Derrek Van Lith said.

Many savored the unseasonably warm weather knowing that the summer-like temperatures won't last.

"It's all downhill from here," said Brian Dahl of Minnetonka.

Still, the blue skies and sunshine had many people out, shopping for pumpkins at Countryside Farm Market in Minnetonka.

"We've never sold so much stuff to date, through late September, through today ever till this year," owner Brian Doehling said.

The Reichel family picked a wagon full of pumpkins, but according to one member of the family, the weather wasn't ideal.

"It's too warm, it should be, like, cool," Sam Reichel said.
