Quinn Power a strong asset to Lakeville North's lacrosse program
LAKEVILLE, Minn. — Since lacrosse became a Minnesota high school sport, Lakeville North has been one of the top teams. But it took until last year, to break through for state championship number one.
"It was crazy," said senior Quinn Power. "Really close to indescribable."
Power is the Panthers' anything-but-secret weapon. He is a faceoff savant.
"Honestly, not a ton of kids in lacrosse get super excited about faceoffs, but I did," said Power. "I just found the position really interesting. I love how crafty you can get."
Power's superpower is faceoff domination — a play with fewer variables than in hockey. It's a play that, as the rules currently sit, can be an overwhelming advantage.
"Like backyard basketball where it is just, 'Make it, take it,'" said head coach Matt Stonestrom. "You hit a jumper and get the ball back. You just control everything and you're demoralizing the opponent. You don't even get a chance."
Power's faceoff percentage is elite. Sometimes Lakeville North has possession for 80% of the game.
"The side not a lot of people see is the pressure that can come with that," said Power. "I feel like every game when I walk out there I'm being told I have to dominate otherwise our team isn't gonna have success."
Fast hands, a strong clamp and a clean exit — Power has no peer in Minnesota prep lacrosse.
"I really credit a lot of my success to the amount of time I've spent working with different coached and different former PLL players," Power said.
