Nearly 9,000 Gallons Of Oil-Saltwater Mixture Spills In N.D.

MOHALL, N.D. (AP) — The state Health Department says nearly 9,000 gallons of what is known as produced water spilled and was contained in Renville County.

Produced water is a mixture of saltwater and oil that can contain drilling chemicals. The spill happened Tuesday at a site operated by Zargon Oil Inc. about 7 miles south of Mohall.

Zargon estimates that 210 barrels spilled due to a valve or pipe connection leak and was contained within a tank berm and a man-made pond. A barrel holds 42 gallons.

State inspectors have been to the scene and will continue to monitor the site.
