Water Leak Causes Flooding At Nicollet Towers In Mpls.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A housing complex in downtown Minneapolis is dealing with an icy situation.

It appears a pipe may have burst at Nicollet Towers, located along Nicollet Mall.

WCCO cameras were not allowed inside overnight, but a resident sent in pictures showing flooded hallways and water pouring from the ceiling in places and outside.

According to Volunteers of America – Minnesota and Wisconsin, the leak occurred in the sprinkler system and was under control about an hour after it was discovered in the facility's community room Monday at 10:30 p.m.

Volunteer officials say the leak caused ice to form in the front of the building's main entrances and into the underground garage.

The building's kitchen needed to be closed, but a planned senior nutrition lunch will take place as scheduled using catered services.

Residents are being warned to avoid slippery areas at the entrances until the ice can be removed.

There were no injuries.

Nicollet Towers is owned by Volunteers of America National Services and managed by Volunteers of America – Minnesota and Wisconsin.
