Police: Woman Critical After Rochester Shooting, Man Dead
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities in southeastern Minnesota say a woman is in critical condition and a man is dead after a shooting incident Monday morning.
The Rochester Police Department was called to an area outside a dwelling on the 2900 block of 9th Avenue on a report of a medical situation. A woman was walking along the sidewalk in the area when she noticed another woman staggering in her direction. The injured woman collapsed and was bleeding profusely.
Authorities say the victim had been shot several times in the chest and while the passer-by was tending to the victim, a male left a residence nearby and got into a vehicle. Police say a short time later, the man was found dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman, who authorities say is in her late 40s, was taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to her chest and upper body. The man was identified as 71-year-old Fereydoun Benham of Red Wing. Authorities haven't released the name of the woman.
Police said they do not believe there is a threat to the public, and the incident is under investigation.
