Police Treating Death Of Mankato Teen As Suspicious
MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) — Police are trying to figure out how a 16-year-old girl ended up dead in a farm field Wednesday morning, hundreds of feet from her car.
A deputy found the body of Hannah Oliva while investigating a car stuck in the mud in Judson Township, just west of Mankato.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Captain Rich Murry called the teen's death "suspicious", as her body had no visible signs of trauma and it appeared she had walked 200 yards away from her car—that was found unoccupied and stuck in mud.
The 16-year-old was a junior at Mankato West High School. Students told WCCO that school officials made an announcement about her death earlier today and offered counseling services. A friend told WCCO "she was one of the nicest and most caring girls I've ever met."
