Police: Peaceful Ending After Suspect Barricaded Himself At Graduate Hotel On 'U' Campus

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis police say there was a peaceful resolution to a tense situation on the University of Minnesota's east bank campus Thursday.

Officers from the University of Minnesota Police Department responded to the Graduate Hotel on the 600 block of Washington Avenue Southeast at about 1:40 p.m. on a report of a person in one of the guest rooms who was in crisis.

Officers arrived and attempted to make contact with the adult man in order to provide him help. According to MPD, he refused to open the door. Officers secured the area and communicated with the man via different means.

Police say after several hours, UMPD officers took the man into custody, and they say he was "transported to a facility that will provide him the care he needs."
