Minneapolis police arrest man after domestic assault leads to hourslong standoff
MINNEAPOLIS – A 50-year-old man is in custody after a domestic assault call led to a standoff Monday in south Minneapolis.
Police say officers were called to the 3300 block of Chicago Avenue at about 7:22 a.m. on a report of an armed man who had assaulted a woman.
Officers found the victim outside of the home, and she was taken to a local hospital. Police then set up a safe perimeter, and evacuated some people from the area for safety purposes.
Police say they used de-escalation techniques and worked with crisis negotiators to resolve the situation peacefully. The suspect was taken into custody at about 1:30 p.m., and a gun was recovered at the scene.
WCCO does not typically identify those arrested until they are formally charged.
