Police: Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Blue Line Train In South Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say a person in a motorized wheelchair died Sunday night after being hit by a Metro Transit Blue Line train in south Minneapolis.

The incident happened at about 6 p.m. near 32nd St. S. The victim, who was with another person at the time of the incident, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with critical injuries. Metro Transit officials say he later died of his injuries.

Authorities say the man was heading southbound on the pedestrian path that runs parallel to the track. The victim was crossing the track with the other person when the wheelchair got stuck and he was hit. How the wheelchair got stuck and was that close to the tracks is still under investigation.

Buses were brought into transport customers as the incident was being investigation. Metro Transit officials said the Blue Line train was back operating by about 8 p.m.
