Police: Neighbor Fired Shots At Man, 11-Year-Old Son
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota man was in jail Thursday night after police said he shot at his neighbors while they planted corn.
Bullets shattered the windows of a tractor as a man and his 11-year-old son rode inside. They're both shaken, but OK.
"It's really hard for me to fathom what was going through that guy's mind, I just, I don't get it," neighbor Bill Dvorak said.
He said he can't help but shake his head when he thinks about what happened between his neighbors. Police arrested Kenneth Walsh for attempted murder.
"You've got an 11-year-old son in the vehicle with you, and that could have been horrible," Dvorak said.
According to the Carver County Sheriff's Office, Walsh admitted he was mad at his neighbor, and in an interview said he was at his house and shot more than once at the victim and his son in the field.
The shattered glass on the tractor has now been replaced. The dad has some cuts on his neck, but his son wasn't physically injured.
The victim was back out planting corn after the incident, which happened on May 23. He wasn't interested in talking about what happened.
Dvorak speculates the noise from farming may have sparked the shooting.
"You're in farm country, they farm," Dvorak said. "I just don't understand it."
He's thankful this story didn't have a different ending.
"If [my neighbor] would've got hit and then his son has to live with that for the rest of his life, or if his son would've gotten killed, and then [my neighbor] has to live with that for the rest of his life," Dvorak said, adding that he doesn't think Walsh "deserves to see the light of day again."
Police seized rifles and shotguns from Walsh's home.
He's being held on a $1 million bond and will go before a judge in Friday morning.
