Police Hope Ring Will Help Identify Remains Found Near Albert Lea

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities hope pictures of a ring may help solve the mystery of a man's identity.

A 10-carat gold ring with a large red stone was found with human remains near Albert Lea on Monday. It was described as resembling a class ring.

A landowner found the man's remains near a fence along the south side of Interstate 90 near Highway 13.

Investigators are calling the death suspicious. The proximity of a nearby gas station to the area where the remains were found is one of the reasons authorities say this is a suspicious death. Investigators said anyone in good shape could presumably have walked from the SuperAmerica to the area.

Along with the ring, authorities found shoes made by the Mario De Gerard shoe company.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. The second phase of the autopsy will be conducted in the near future.

If you recognize the ring or have any other information, please call Albert Lea police at 507-377-5200 (extension 5).
