Police: College Student Assaulted, Robbed On U Of M Campus
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota police say a college student who is not affiliated with the University was assaulted and robbed in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to police, the incident occurred just before 3 a.m. on July 7 on the south side of University Parking Lot 94 near the Barbara Barker Center for Dance on the West Bank.
The victim was walking westbound on Riverside Avenue when he saw three male suspects exit a black four-door SUV that was parked on 21st Avenue South in front of the Barker Center. The suspects walked over to the victim and demanded his valuables. When the victim refused, he was assaulted.
The suspects took the victim's backpack and when the victim tried chasing them, a fourth male suspect got out of the SUV and punched the victim again. The four suspects then got in the SUV, which was driven by a fifth male suspect, and drove off – last seen traveling southbound on 21st Avenue South toward Riverside Avenue.
The victim was not seriously injured.
There are no detailed suspect descriptions of the five suspects available at this time.
