Police chase ends in crash in Marcy-Holmes neighborhood

MINNEAPOLIS -- A police pursuit ended in a crash in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood of Minneapolis that involved multiple injuries.

The crash happened just after 10 a.m. Friday.

Law enforcement says it located a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting in the passenger seat of a stolen vehicle near 22nd Avenue North and Emerson Avenue North.

The driver rammed three Hennepin County Sheriff's vehicles and fled the area when law enforcement says it initiated a chase.

The Minneapolis Police Department says the vehicle left the roadway near Central Avenue Southeast and University Avenue Southeast, drove over a snow embankment and continued traveling on a sidewalk.

The vehicle then swerved to the left, crossed all lanes of traffic, drove over a snow embankment and struck a tree.

All four occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital, including the suspect, who has since been released and booked into Hennepin County Jail.

A gun was recovered from inside the vehicle.

"This is a prime example of police doing their job and serving the community as they are supposed to," said Michael Towns, who witnessed the chase from the window of his apartment.

Sources close to the investigation tell WCCO police have been searching for the suspect for weeks.

Police say they will release more information about the suspect later.
