Suspect Leads Alexandria Police On Chase Through Golf Course, Yards
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Kensington man was hospitalized Tuesday morning after leading police on a chase across Douglas County, including through a golf course and across several home yards.
According to a statement from the Alexandria Police Department, 20-year-old Colton Scott Armstrong was driving in the area of Birch Avenue and Glacier Avenue when an officer attempted to stop him for a traffic violation, but he took off.
Officers say Armstrong attempted to evade the police, even driving on the grass at Nordic Trails golf course on two occasions. Later, he drove through several yards on County Road 120.
An Alexandria Police officer attempted position his car to stop the fleeing vehicle, but lost control and struck a tree. The officer was uninjured, though the car had to be towed. After the crash police briefly lost the suspect, but found him later on County Road 42.
Police say the suspect reached speeds of 90 mph. Officers were eventually able to immobilize his vehicle as he left the roadway and hit a telephone pole. He was hospitalized, and later transferred to Douglas County Jail.
Officers say Armstrong had an outstanding warrant for his arrest on domestic abuse charges, though authorities haven't yet charged him in the pursuit.
