MOO-ve Over! Loose Cows Saunter Through Red Wing

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) – A southeastern Minnesota farmer had to be called Wednesday night after cattle reportedly got loose in downtown Red Wing, according to police.

Red Wing Police and the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office received a report of cattle in the street at the intersection of Highway 61 and Plum Street. When officers arrived, six Holstein cows were spotted in the street in downtown Red Wing.

Chief Roger Pohlman says it took three officers to corral the cattle Wednesday night. Pohlman says it wasn't long and police got a call from the cattle owner who noticed his trailer gate was down when he returned to his farm in Hager City, Wisconsin and that he was missing a few head. He had stopped in Red Wing and figured that's where they made their break for freedom.

The cows were returned to their owner, and no damage was reported in the area.
