Barricaded Suspect Arrested After East Metro SWAT Team Fires Non-Lethal Round

ROSEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) -- It took an east metro SWAT team to arrest a New Richmond, Wis., man who barricaded himself inside the bedroom of a Roseville home on Thursday.

Geoffrey McCloskey, 33, who had active felony warrants in Ramsey and Hennepin counties, was shot in the leg with one non-lethal round by police around 4:30 p.m. He was trying to escape the home through an open garage door and was shot after he "aggressively charged perimeter officers," according to a Roseville police press release.

An anonymous tip led police to the home, on the 2100 block of Rice Street, shortly after 12:30 p.m. When he saw the officers, McCloskey disappeared into the home, headed downstairs and tried to escape out a window, police said. But he found more police outside and decided to barricade himself in a lower-level bedroom.

Roseville police then called the SWAT team. After attempts to talk with McCloskey failed, SWAT officers used tear gas and diversionary devices to draw him out.

McCloskey's warrants were for charges related to fleeing a police officer, but police say he may face additional charges related to obstructing legal process and failing to obey police.

He was taken to Regions Hospital for treatment of a wound caused by the SWAT team's non-lethal fire. He will later be sent to the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center.

McCloskey pleaded guilty in 2000 to felony assault with a deadly weapon and criminal damage to property, according to court documents.
