Police: 3 Hurt, 1 Seriously, In Coon Rapids Head-On Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say a 21-year-old woman was seriously hurt and two others were injured after a head-on crash involving four vehicles on Wednesday in Coon Rapids.
The Coon Rapids Police Department responded to the crash at about 3:43 p.m. on Highway 10 and the Northdale Boulevard overpass, which is just east of Round Lake Boulevard. When officers got to the scene, four cars were involved and one had been torn in half.
The driver of that car, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with serious injuries. Her condition is not known.
Authorities say two other drivers in the crash were hospitalized with injuries, but later released. The driver of the fourth car was not injured. There were no passengers in any of the four vehicles.
The circumstances leading up to the accident are under investigation. Authorities say it is believed that driver of the car that was torn in half was heading eastbound on Highway 10 when something happened that caused her to head into oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes. The driver hit two other cars heading westbound at highway speeds. The fourth car was heading eastbound and had minimal damage.
The westbound lanes of Highway 10 were closed and one lane of eastbound traffic was open while agencies investigated the crash, which is still under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who might have information is asked to call the Coon Rapids Police Department at (763) 7617-6417.
The Coon Rapids Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Blaine Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
