Police: 1 Dead In Maplewood Shooting; Person Of Interest Sought
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (WCCO) – Police in the St. Paul suburb of Maplewood say they are looking to speak with a person of interest following the shooting death of a woman early Sunday morning.
In a press release, the Maplewood Police Department said the shooting happened around 6 a.m. at a home on the 1700 block of Woodland Lane. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the body of 41-year-old April Marie Tennin with an apparent gunshot wound.
Three children – ages 12, 15 and 16 – were inside the home at the time of the shooting, police said.
Police say the children named their stepfather as the shooter. Investigators say he is believed to have been in an argument with the victim before the shooting happened and fled thereafter.
His identity was not released.
"We have heard from people who knew them that there has been a history of at least threats of him by her," Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell said.
A neighbor said she saw one of the children run out into the street and scream, "Help me, help me, my mom is dead, my mom is dead."
Officers say the husband is not an official suspect, but they strongly believe he was in the house. As of Sunday evening, police say they still have not located him, but they are continuing the investigation.
