Phone Bank Raises $9,600 For Salvation Army
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Throughout the holiday season, WCCO-TV is highlighting groups throughout the Twin Cities that help others, and need your help to do that.
This week as part of the "Trees of Hope" campaign, WCCO-TV is working with the Salvation Army to give kids toys this holiday season. After raising more than $14,000 for Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance and more than $26,000 for the Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge, a phone bank was held Tuesday for the Salvation Army.
WCCO viewers helped raise more than $9,600 Tuesday through phone bank donations. If you missed the phone bank but still want to donate, you can do so through Thursday on the Salvation Army web site.
The Twin Cities Salvation Army is one of the largest providers of holiday toys to kids who may not otherwise get a gift for Christmas. Last year, the program gave about 118,000 toys to about 25,000 children in the Twin Cities. This year, there are about 24,000 children registered at five Salvation Army toy shops in the Twin Cities.
The greatest gifts in need are for adolescents ages 10 to 14. The Salvation Army toy shop serves about 14,000 Twin Cities families each year.
