Pet Blog: Turn Your Dog Into An Antler Hunter!

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Deer antler shed hunting has been around for a long time.

When breeding season is through, adult males shed their antlers. That's when "hunting" season begins, typically between December and February.

But most folks wait until the snow's melted some before searching for the impressive antlers.

Using a dog to hunt for these bones has only become popular in recent years, and it's a great alternative for outdoor enthusiasts who want to bond with their sporting breed dogs without actually hunting animals.

Positive Gun Dogs of Minnesota is offering a four-session, reward-based outdoor class In Eagan to teach you and your dog(s) to work together to find these natural works of art.

Dogs that are naturally inclined to retrieve will be best suited for this hobby.

It's also a beneficial activity for off-season hunting dogs, helping to improve their scouting abilities.

The first session begins Sunday, March 15, and runs for the next three Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The entire class costs $115.
