Motorists hits, kills pedestrian in Blaine

BLAINE, Minn. — A driver fatally struck a pedestrian in the north metro Tuesday morning, authorities said.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders were dispatched at around 4:30 a.m. to 109th and Central avenues northeast. They were responding to the report of a person lying in the road.

Officials say a 911 caller reported the vehicle they were in may have struck someone lying on the road.

When emergency responders arrived, they found an injured man on the road. Despite life-saving efforts, the man died at the scene. He was later identified as 42-year-old James Sachs of Blaine.

The motorist suspected of hitting the man was located a short time later. The driver is cooperating, officials say, and the incident is not being investigated as a hit and run.

The incident is being investigated by the Blaine Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Midwest Medical Examiner's Office and Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Anyone who witnessed the crash should call non-emergency dispatch at 763-427-1212.
