Patrol: 1 Dead After Head-On Crash In Meeker County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The State Patrol says a head-on crash on an icy highway Sunday evening in Meeker County left a 37-year-old man dead.

The crash happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Highway 12, near mile marker 90.

The State Patrol says a Nissan pickup travelling east on the highway lost control, crossed the center line and into the way of a Chevrolet sedan driving west. The sedan struck the pickup on the passenger's side, and both cars ended up in the ditch north of the roadway.

The driver of the pickup, Fidencio Rojas of Litchfield, was thrown from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and officials say he was not wearing a seat belt.

All others involved in the crash – three passengers in pickup, three total in the sedan – suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
