Pastor Vows To Help Pack 2 Million Meals

NOVI, Mich. (AP) — A Detroit-area pastor is looking to help the hungry in a big way.

The Rev. Brad Powell wants 10,000 volunteers to assist him in packing 2 million meals over a three-day period next month.

Powell heads up NorthRidge Church. In 2011, he directed 5,000 volunteers as they packed 1 million meals in the same time period.

Now, Powell is looking to double that effort Feb. 14-16, at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

NorthRidge is partnering with Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit Christian organization based in Coon Rapids, Minn., to make it happen.

The packing will take place in 11 two-hour shifts, with 900 people packing during each shift.

The Suburban Collection Showplace is donating 65,000 square feet of space for the event.
