Parents Upset By Proposed Wayzata School District Rezoning

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some parents are upset over proposed rezoning in Wayzata's school district due to overcrowding.

Families against the rezoning met Saturday to make signs to put up in their yards and windows.

Parents are asking for their children to be grandfathered in and go to the school where they started -- or they want Wayzata to re-think the zones.

"All of our homes are less than a mile [away]. Most of them are 0.5, 0.6 of a mile away from our school," Plymouth resident Andrea Dobrin said. "And we chose our homes to be able to have our children attend our neighborhood school."

Officials from Wayzata Public Schools say they are creating space at overcrowded schools, and trying to accommodate projected student growth.

A special work session has been scheduled for June 4, when the school board will discuss the modifications.

Action is expected to happen at the June 8 school board meeting.
