Only minor injuries after light rail train derails in downtown Minneapolis

Light rail service restored in downtown Minneapolis after train derailment

MINNEAPOLIS — Light rail service has resumed in downtown Minneapolis after a train derailed Saturday night, injuring three people.

Metro Transit said the train hit a concrete barrier on the tracks, causing it to derail between the Nicollet Mall and Warehouse District/Hennepin stations around 8:30 p.m.

The three passengers who were injured did not need to be taken to the hospital. Buses transported passengers while Metro Transit worked to get the train up and running.
