Oil Trains To Pass Through DT Minneapolis, Western Twin Cities Suburbs

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A million gallons of oil from North Dakota will soon be on more trains going through the Twin Cities via the western suburbs.

The oil trains are being re-routed past Target Field and across the Mississippi River at Nicollet Island.

Residents in Wayzata and St. Louis Park can expect 11 to 23 oil trains to pass through each week.

The trains are on the way to eastern refineries. Oil trains previously approached Minneapolis through Anoka and Coon Rapids.

BNSF Railway says the rerouting is temporary while they work on improving tracks across Minnesota.
