Officials: Woman's Body Found Near Man Who Shot Himself

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials in south-central Minnesota say they found the body of a woman in a makeshift campsite after responding to a report that a man had shot himself.

The Renville County Sheriff's Office says it got a call about the apparent self-inflected gunshot wound last Friday morning. When officers arrived at the scene, about a mile southwest of Franklin, just off of 645th Avenue, they found a man with a gunshot wound still alive inside a tent.

It was when officers were addressing the man's wound that they found the woman's body, which was also inside the tent, the sheriff's office said.

An air ambulance flew the man to North Memorial Medical Center for treatment. The sheriff's office did not release his name.

The woman's body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office, where officials say an autopsy will be performed to determine her cause and manner of death. Her name has also not been released.

The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
