Officer Scott Patrick To Be Honored At National Event
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Slain Mendota Heights police officer Scott Patrick is being recognized at a National Police Week event in Washington, D.C. this May.
Officer Patrick will be honored at the Annual National Peace Officer's Memorial Service in front of the Capitol on Friday, May 15. A wreath laying ceremony will follow soon afterwards at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial a few blocks away, where Officer Patrick's name will be etched on a wall.
Around 30,000 people attend the ceremony each year.
The Mendota Heights Police Department is holding a fundraiser in April to cover expenses for Officer Patrick's wife and two daughters to attend the ceremony. The department has more information on the fundraiser, including how to donate, on the event's Facebook page.
Officer Patrick, a 19-year veteran of the force, was gunned down during a traffic stop in July. Brian Fitch Sr. was found guilty of the murder in February.
