October Sentencing Set For Rock Island Man In Woman's Death

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (AP) — A Rock Island man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend will be sentenced Oct. 9.

The sentencing date for 40-year-old Timothy McVay was set Wednesday. He was convicted July 17 of first-degree murder and concealment in the death of 29-year-old Carrie Olson of Davenport, Iowa.

He faces between 20 and 60 years in prison. McVay's attorneys say they will ask for the minimum sentence. Rock Island State's Attorney John McGehee says he doesn't know yet how much time he will request.

Prosecutors argued McVay killed Olson in his home between Dec. 28 and 29, 2013 and dumped her body near Hastings, Minnesota. Her remains were found four months later.

Defense attorneys contended prosecutors failed to prove McVay killed Olson or that the Iowa woman died in Illinois.
