Obama's Top Trade Adviser In Minnesota To Talk Pacific Rim Deal
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — President Barack Obama's lead trade adviser is set to visit Minnesota to tout the Pacific Rim trade deal.
U.S. trade representative Michael Froman speaks Monday at the Economic Club of Minnesota's March luncheon at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Froman will discuss the U.S.-led Trans-Pacific Partnership, aimed at giving Americans access to markets in the Asia-Pacific region by cutting taxes on made-in-America products.
Froman will talk about how Minnesota would gain economic benefits from the pact. Labor groups generally oppose the deal, fearing it would cost jobs.
The Obama administration also faces a tough job getting the trade deal through Congress. Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has suggested he won't bring it up for a vote before the November election.
