Obama Signs Bill Including Roseau Flood Protection
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says a flood protection project for Roseau will be completed, thanks to the water projects bill signed Tuesday by President Barack Obama.
The $12.3 billion bill raises the Roseau project's authorized cost to $43.8 million.
Aaron Snyder of the corps' St. Paul District says the increased authorization, combined with federal funding provided earlier, will allow for the Roseau project to be completed in the fall of 2015.
The project includes building earthen levees and 4.5 miles of diversion channel. Construction of the channel began in 2010. Since then, 3.5 miles of channel have been excavated. Construction of the remaining mile is scheduled to begin this year.
Roseau is in far northwestern Minnesota. The town of 2,600 was hit by a major flood in 2002.
